New gambling law in Japan

In July the Japanese government passed a new gambling law. Now so called “Integrated Resorts (IR)” are no longer prohibited. These are gambling areas with integrated hotels and shopping facilities like for example in Las Vegas. The government hopes to attract more tourists and to support local economy.

Interesting fact: For Japanese people there are different rules than for tourists: They are allowed to visit casinos at the most three times a week or ten times a month. Also they have to pay approximately 50$ entry – tourists however don’t have to pay entry. With these measures the Japanese government hopes to limit compulsive gambling.
