How many candy canes do you think fit on a Christmas tree? And who holds the record for fastest Christmas tree decorating? Strange questions to which we provide answers today.

The biggest decorated Christmas tree

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree… being an essential part of a successful Christmas – some think the bigger, the better. But you probably won’t be able to break the current world record for the largest decorated Christmas tree with your fir tree. In 1950, the decorated coniferous tree of a shopping center in Seattle reached a proud 67.36 meters. Since then this record has remained unbeaten.

The largest, artificial Christmas tree

In times of climate change and an increased sense of ecological sustainability, the number of artificial Christmas trees is increasing every year. With their sparkling fairy lights and beautiful ornaments, these are in no way inferior to their natural models. Especially in regions of the world where fir trees do not grow due to the climate, fake trees offer a great substitute. So it is not surprising that the record for the largest artificial Christmas tree in a tropical area was also set. The artificial Christmas tree erected in 2016 in the vacation paradise of Sri Lanka reached a height of 72.1 meters. However, Christmas under palm trees also sounds like a good alternative.

The fastest Christmas tree decorator

How long it took to decorate the two tree giants is not known. However, the record for the fastest Christmas tree decorating of all times is held by a Briton. The presenter Sam Homewood managed to decorate a standard Christmas tree from crown to foot in just 34.52 seconds on November 12, 2018 in his show "Scrambled! The fir probably didn’t win a beauty prize, but the Briton is now the proud Guinness World Records title holder.

The heaviest gingerbread man

Away from the firs, towards a delicious topic: food. An important and popular part of the pre-Christmas season. It is not without reason that cookies, Spekulatius and gingerbread can already be found on supermarket shelves in September. Even if not everyone loves the spice cookie more than anything else, it is impossible to imagine the holidays without it. In November 2009, a popular Swedish furniture store wanted to bake the heaviest gingerbread man ever. With success: the XXL treat weighed in at a whopping 635 kilograms.

The biggest Christmas stocking

Stuffed Christmas stockings are also a holiday tradition in many households around the world. No conventional socks, but large, mostly embroidered stockings are hung over the fireplace on Christmas Eve. On the morning of the first Christmas day, they are then filled to bursting with sweets and small gifts. Of course there is also a size record here. The giant stocking stretched over 51.35 meters in the Italian city of Carrara. The contents consisted of delicacies, as in the classic model, filled into balloons. The background of this action was in the Christmas spirit of charity: a charity association used it to collect donations for senior citizens.

The most expensive decorated Christmas tree

Not only Christmas presents are expensive – a lot of decoration, ornaments and a big Christmas tree also require an appropriate budget. A hotel in Dubai remains unsurpassed. The Christmas tree including decoration cost over eleven million US dollars and could be admired by guests in the lobby of the Emirates Palace. The luxury factor: 181 glittering pieces of jewelry that covered the tree. A sum that will probably not be surpassed so quickly and therefore deservedly placed in our Top 10.

The biggest Christmas tree ball
Of course, Dubai does not only hold a world record for decoration. Beside the most expensive Christmas tree, also the largest Christmas tree ball has it’s home in Dubai. With a diameter of 4 meters and 68 centimeters, the red-golden ball sparkled as the central Christmas decoration element in December 2018 in the world-famous Dubai Mall. Not only the size was impressive: the giant ornament weighed an unimaginable 1,100 kilograms.

The most lights on a Christmas tree

In addition to Christmas tree baubles, lights are essential for a radiantly beautiful Christmas tree. Either traditional candles or – the less dangerous variant – fairy lights are used here. The latter plays a central role in our number 8: On December 10, 2010, a group of Belgians placed 350 fairy lights of three meters each on a Christmas tree, setting a new world record. Covered with 194,672 small light bulbs, the Christmas tree shone for over five minutes and enchanted the inhabitants of the small East Belgian town of Malmedy. Unfortunately, we do not have the electricity bill for it.

The biggest Santa Claus cap

Red and white: these are Santa’s unmistakable colors. These colors are also reflected again and again in the fashion for the pre-Christmas season. The most popular must-have for a visit to the Christmas market are probably Santa caps. You wonder where the record is? We’ll tell you. 15.47 meters high and 8.23 meters wide – the largest Santa’s cap in the world extends over this area. The cap was handmade by children of the Norwegian Chill Youth Club. It took a whole three months to complete the oversized headgear made of red felt and artificial fur.

Most candy canes on a Christmas tree

Candy canes are an important Christmas symbol, especially in the United States of America. Like the Santa hat, this candy is traditionally colored red and white and is a popular treat, especially with children. But candy canes do not only have their place at the dining table, they are also a popular decoration object on the Christmas tree. This brings us to perhaps the most absurd decoration record for Christmas: On November 17, 2018, a group of ten American women, called the Winter Wonderland Group, placed 6,425 candy canes on a single fir tree and created what is probably the sweetest Christmas tree in the world.
